Sew Like A Soldier

Saturday, March 28, 2026

3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

10 Tickets Available

Clothing is always expensive but in the past it was even pricier. Clothing had to be handmade & many people only had 1-3 sets of clothes and you couldn’t just buy new clothes at any time. So, how did soldiers on the march maintain their uniforms? Basic sewing, patching, darning, and more! Learn how sewing was an integral part of daily life for both soldiers and families while trying it yourself with these hands-on activities!

Event Details:

Join us to learn and practice some basic clothing repair skills used by soldiers in the field during the Civil War, such as: mending a tear, reattaching a lost button, and making & attaching a patch! If time allows, we might even darn a sock or two. As we work, we'll discuss the daily life of soldiers, the interesting history of patches, and why clothing repair was so important to civilians & soldiers alike.
