plant a medicinal pant baby used during the Civil War to take home with you and grow!
During the American Civil War, medicine was scarce in the South so southerners turned to the plants that were already growing within their own backyards. These native plants were easy to grow and find, and many (but not all) have since proven to be genuinely effective at treating certain medical ailments.
Join us as we learn about some of the more common ones, what they were used for and how, as we plant seeds and adopt a medicinal plant baby to take home and plant. And because they are native to South Carolina, even hopeless gardeners should have a decent chance of getting them to survive and thrive!
