An amazing presentation on the styles, fashions, and practices of Victorian ladies in the 1860's! FREE!
First, at 1pm: Getting To dress in the 1860's was a ritual of layers, designed to create the iconic bell-shaped silhouette while maintaining modesty. This demonstration is the step by step assembly of a ladies ensemble.
Then at 2pm: During Victorian patterns we will examine wools, cottons, and lightweight silks as we discover how the era's colors evolved while we learn about the obsession with complex patterns and hoe these elements were layered to signal status, mourning, and domestic virtue.
And finally, at 3pm: We will learn about how 19th century beauty was literally breathtaking as we explore the dark side of the Victorian aesthetic: from gowns laced with arsenic, toxic foundations, crinoline fires and terrible working conditions.
