May Forest
First Day Hike at May Forest State Park
Myrtle Beach
Take a relaxing half-mile walk around the park with a volunteer checking our bird houses to observe various stages of nesting.
Throughout the summer, travel to three of our South Carolina State Parks to learn about and hopefully observe three to four different species of sea turtles in the wild! Spot a leatherback or Kemp’s ridley from the fishing pier at Myrtle Beach, see a nesting loggerhead at Edisto Beach, walk to the jetty at Huntington Beach to observe immature greens, and attend a sea turtle nest inventory at any of these three coastal parks. Join us for an evening paddle with park staff on scenic Lake Craig. During this 90-min. paddling trip we will watch the sun slowly set, and as dusk descends, we will see the first stars of the evening.

Rivers Bridge
Discover the medicinal properties of blackberry as we learn to identify wild blackberries and how to make medicine and tea from them! This is followed by a delicious berry dissection to gather seeds to take home and plant!
Join the Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site for a unique two-hour Ranger guided hike of an undeveloped Revolutionary War battlefield. (Hike takes place at Blackstock Battlefield State Historic: Site Address: 568 Monument Road, Enoree, SC 29335)

Join a guided beach walk to observe and identify coastal birds and to look for new sea turtle activity that we may have!
Join a ranger on a hike to Mountain Creek, searching for animals and their homes! Wade into the creek and search for dragonfly nymphs, salamanders, and other animals that call Paris Mountain home. In the park lab, see what the animals look like under a microscope (the animals will be returned home to the creek afterward).
Kings Mountain
Kayak Fishing Tournament at Kings Mountain State Park
Join Edisto Beach State Park for a one of a kind experience. As one of the few areas in South Carolina permitted by SCDNR to lead educational sea turtle night walks, you might have the chance to see a sea turtle crawl and nest on the beach. *Please note: due to the duration, time of night, and difficulty of terrain, these walks are not recommended for children younger than 11 years old. The age limit is strictly enforced.
